According to eye care specialists, increased screen time is damaging to your eyes.

“I’m on a computer from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm,” Amy Hewitt said.

Like many people right now, the pandemic has caused Amy Hewitt to stare at a screen all day, every day.

She found that it caused constant tension.

“I’ve had migraines more often than usual here lately,” Hewitt said.

“As between the drought, I always felt like I had something in my eye.”

According to a recent survey by Vision Direct, the average person in the United States spends more than 13 hours a day staring at screens.

At the end of 2019, an average person was spending just 10 hours a day staring at screens, according to data from Vision Direct.

Dr. Kimberly Riordan, optometrist at Florida Eye Specialists, says that as simple as it sounds, you need to keep blinking.

“What he does is take the tears and [spreads] evenly over the ocular surface and keeps them lubricated, ”said Dr. Riordan.

Dr Riordan said that due to computer, cell phone and television use, increased screen time causes a wide range of eye problems.

“[It’s causing] those dry, tired, itchy, burning and sore eyes, ”said Dr. Riordan.

“Patients who wear contact lenses, we start to see them not tolerating contact lenses. “

Florida Eye Specialists says that with a more than 60 percent increase in LASIK eye surgery assessment, many people are saying goodbye to glasses and contact lenses and hello to LASIK.

“It took less than 15 minutes, I think, once they got me into the LASIK suite, and I could see her go there 30 minutes later,” Hewitt said.

Hewitt said the difference LASIK made on her eyes changed her life.

“I saw 20/20 with my contacts, but after LASIK what I’m seeing is just sharp,” Hewitt said.
