Mohammed Nawaz Ateeq, President of the Pakistani Lira Community, says the eye camp is part of cooperation and social responsibility to the Lango community that has long supported his business.

More than 500 people with different eye problems showed up for free eye exams and cataract surgery at Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH). The 3-day camp which started on Sunday aims to provide free eye health care to the community of Lango.

It is organized by the Pakistani-Lira Association with the support of the Overseas Pakistani Global Foundation Africa (OPGFA). Three ophthalmologists from Pakistan, USA and UK perform cataract examinations and operations. The group hopes to provide services to more than 1,000 people with eye complications.

Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health, who left the health camp, acknowledged the impact of the Pakistan Association in the fight against eye infections across the country. According to Aceng, the burden of eye infections is high and such camps are strongly encouraged, due to complementary efforts by the government.
