Northampton gets new eye treatment center to help reduce ‘half a million’ delayed appointments
Northampton is home to a new treatment center offering eye care services from one of the UK’s largest community eye service providers.
The new Community Health and Eye Care Center (CHEC) is located in Sol Central and will provide the NHS with increased capacity to help solve the backlog of ‘half a million’ eye care-related treatments, such as cataracts.
The company also said it would provide a “much needed option” for patients in need of treatment in the area.
His presence is expected to play “an important role” in clearing regional eye care backlogs, which the company says has been one of the hardest hit areas, with a 39% drop in elective admissions throughout the pandemic.
The opening follows others across the country.
Jon Dore, Chief Operating Officer at CHEC, said: “The launch of our new processing center in Northampton is a welcome addition to our recent site openings.
“We believe it is essential to extend our services to areas where the NHS faces crippling backlogs and pressures, and the opening of the center illustrates our priority – supporting the NHS and of course local patients who have an urgent need for our services.
“At CHEC, high quality and responsive care always comes first, and this site will play a role in building a strong partnership with the local community for many years to come.”
The Northampton center is said to be offering a free ‘Home to Hospital’ transport service, which provides patients with round-trip transport for appointments and surgery.
