At least 1,000 workers will receive free eye care in Sayedabad
An eye care camp provides free treatment at Sayedabad bus station to transport workers to reduce vision-related road accidents.
JCI Dhaka West has organized the treatment with Brac as a strategic partner – supported by Shohoz, Gazi Tire and the Dhaka City Road Transport Workers Union – which will take place on April 23-24.
Organizers said they expected to serve at least 1,000 workers completely free of charge. They provide patients with: glasses, medicines, advice and medical services.
Dr Kamran ul Baset, head of Brac’s road safety program, said: “Many drivers have vision problems but they are unaware, even some suffer and avoid treatment due to money issues. That’s why we provide them for free. Also, through this free camp, we will hopefully know how many workers have vision problems. “
Shohoz Brand Manager Munawar Chowdhury said, “We joined this program because we have drivers who carry passengers. For their safety, we took an interest and launched this camp.
Dhaka City Road Transport Workers Union General Secretary Kazi Selim Sarwar said, “Drivers do not commit accidents on purpose. There are several reasons behind every accident. Vision is one of them. This is the second time that we have organized this type of camp. “
