Dana’s Diary – My LASIK Eye Surgery Journey
October 6, 2021
Since having my LASIK surgery, many people have contacted me to tell me how their vision is – whether they have had corrective eye surgery or have been thinking about it for years. I love that we can share this trip together and I am overwhelmed by all the love and support there!
Every day I think about all the things that are much easier now that I can see, than I had never done before. I was just used to it.
Since people keep asking me for my most dramatic, funniest, klutzy story when I was wearing glasses, I want to hear from you!
Here is mine:
When I was about 16/17 my family went to Shasta Lake and rented a houseboat for a week. One of these days we also rented a jetski. At the time, I only wore glasses, as did my uncle who was himself almost legally blind. At one point, he and I decided to go jet skiing together. We didn’t want to lose our drinks so we both left them on the houseboat. If you didn’t already know, I like to drive FAST. Especially when a jetski is involved. We carried the tail all over the lake. And to me, everything was a literal blur. We were able to avoid the boats, but several times we had to stop and slow down, just to see what the smallest blurs were on the surface of the water. We had to float down to a piece of driftwood just to identify what it was! Overall we had a lot of fun, but when we got back everyone pointed out that the two blindest people on the boat had been jet skiing together. Something I wouldn’t recommend these days, but a fond memory that I look back on. It’s not something we don’t have to worry about anymore (my uncle also had LASIK done at Griffin & Reed Eye Care)!

What the last 2 weeks have meant for me …
It’s been 2 weeks since my LASIK eye surgery at Griffin & Reed Eye Care and I’m so happy I finally made this decision! Funny, after years of back and forth with this decision, it turns out I wasn’t worried about anything! It was so simple, fast and painless!
The best part of the past two weeks has been waking up and not needing to put on my glasses just to see my family or make a cup of tea! All the little things people take for granted were a tedious process for me with glasses and lenses: exercising, playing with my kids, riding a bike, swimming, etc.
I’m so excited to go see Hamilton live, of course! And I’ll be going to Aftershock too, this time wearing NORMAL sunglasses, not those Coke bottle corrective sunglasses that I used to have !!! No more appendages half an inch thick for me! And I no longer have to manage contacts either; no more having to put them on every morning and take them out every night, something I didn’t realize was so usual until I didn’t have to.

Well, today is the day! After this morning, I won’t have to wear my glasses or contact lenses anymore !! Can I tell you how excited I am?!? I’ve been thinking about corrective LASIK eye surgery for years and I’m finally doing it.
To be honest, I’ve always been a little scared and nervous about this surgery… It’s my EYES !! I know tons of people who have done it and they all love it, but it was still a big decision for me.
What ultimately led me to this decision was talking to Dr Maboudi, my ophthalmologist at Dr, Griffin and Reed. She put me at ease and with all her years of experience, I know I’m in good hands.
I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow for the first time in over 20 years and NOT take my glasses off!
