1,000 patients benefit from free eye surgery

Dr. Khursheduzzaman (Mishri Mia) Welfare Trust has started a program to provide free operations for various eye conditions to about 1000 patients in Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur.
On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 75th birthday, a four-day eye camp was set up to perform the operation, according to a press release.
The camp was inaugurated on Saturday in front of the Daak Bungalow of the Zilla Parishad in Islampur. It will continue until October 18, Tuesday.
Ishtiaque M Syed, a professor in the Department of Physics, University of Dhaka and Provost of Amar Ekushe Hall, was the chief guest at the opening of the eye camp.
Dr. Khursheduzzaman (Mishri Mia) Welfare Trust Board Trustee SM Shahinuzzaman said, “Through different eyecamps, the trust has offered various eye treatment services to around 6,000 people since the beginning of this year. Patients with cataracts, swollen muscles and eye tract infections were located in these camps and scheduled for surgery. All participants attending their camp this year will be treated by a trained medical staff of 12 working under the direction of Ophthalmologist Hamidul Haque.
President of Islampur Upazila, HM Jamal Abdun Nasser, UN Tanveer Hasan Ruman and others were special guests on the occasion. Islampur upazila Awami League, former Labor Affairs Secretary SM Jahangir Alam hosted the show.
